Accelerating the Future: Optimizing Public/Private Collaboration to Scale What Works

On Monday, April 17, as part of the HIMSS Interoperability and HIE Forum, a voluntary coalition agreed to work together on sharing implementation experiences, emerging practices, technical and non-technical barriers and recommendations to improve the use of Bulk FHIR data sharing to meet a growing number of public and private initiatives. Today, there are more products that support Bulk FHIR, thanks to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) Cures Act Final Rule, which added criteria for standardized APIs for patient and population services to its Health IT Certification Program for Bulk FHIR.

As of April 10, there are 250+ unique products across 200+ developers that meet this requirement and make this feature available to their customer base. Notably, approximately 30% of the certified products indicated that they rely on another vendor’s software to support meeting ONC’s requirement.
