How do you know if it is time to seek assistance for your loved one? The important question to ask is, “Are mom and dad safe?” Here are just few signs it may be time to hire assistance:
- Falls repeatedly (watch for pressure sores)
- Challenging to get in and out of a chair or bed with or without assistance
- Not eating or poor eating habits
- Poor hygiene
- Medications doses are skipped or forgotten
There are many signs assistance may be needed and these are just a few. Often, a CareGiver can help a loved one stay independent in the home even if she comes to the home for a few hours a week, depending on the level of care needed to keep your loved one safe. A CareGiver can assist in preparing meals, bathing, and getting dressed. She can also assist your loved one with transfers such as getting in and out of bed. A simple reminder to take morning or evening meds can help someone stay independent longer.
A safe and healthy environment is priority. Watch for the signs. A CareGiver may help keep your loved one’s independence.
