Elasticity - flexibility.

Elderly - used to describe a person who is beyond middle age and approaching old age. Also called senior citizens.

Eldercare - social and medical programs and facilities intended for the care and maintenance of the aged.

Element - any substance that cannot be reduced into a less complex substance.

Eligibility - entitlement of an individual to receive services.

Embolism - is an obstruction in a blood vessel due to a blood clot or other foreign matter that gets stuck while traveling through the bloodstream.

Embryo - is an organism in its early stages of development, especially before it has reached a distinctively recognizable form.

Emotion - a mood, affect or feeling of any kind

Empathy- is the capacity to recognize or understand another's state of mind or emotion. It is often characterized as the ability to "put oneself into another's shoes", or to in some way experience the outlook or emotions of another being within oneself.

Emphysema - is a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is often caused by exposure to toxic chemicals, including long-term exposure to tobacco smoke. Emphysema is characterized by loss of elasticity of the lung tissue, from destruction of structures supporting the alveoli, and destruction of capillaries feeding the alveoli. This restricts airflow and traps air in the lungs, as with other obstructive lung diseases. Symptoms include shortness of breath on exertion and later at rest, hyperventilation, and an expanded chest.

Employment - an act or instance of employing someone; job.

End-of-Life - refers to a final period of hours, days, weeks, months in a person's life in which it is medically obvious that death is imminent or a terminal state cannot be prevented.

Endocrine System - is an integrated system of small organs which involve the release of hormones.

Environment - all the external conditions and influences affecting the life and development of an organism.

Enzymes - are proteins that accelerate chemical reactions.

Epileptic Seizure - a convulsion during an epileptic attack.

Episode - a noteworthy happening occurring in the course of a continuous series of events.

Equilibrium - balance.

Equity - is the market value of a home or other security less the debt against it.

Esophagus - is the tube connecting the throat to the stomach, which is about ten inches long in adults.

Ethics - the moral obligation to render to the patient the best possible quality of care and to maintain an honest relationship with other members of the profession and mankind in general.

Evacuation - emptying.

Evaluation - assessment of the patient for the purposes of forming a diagnosis and plan of treatment.

Evidence - is anything that will assist in making a decision.

Examination - (also exam) inspection or investigation, especially as a means of diagnosing disease.

Exertion - vigorous action.

Excrete - to separate and discharge (waste matter) from the blood, tissues, or organs.

Exocrine - are glands that secrete their products (enzymes) into ducts (duct glands). They are the counterparts to endocrine glands, which secrete their products (hormones) directly into the bloodstream (ductless glands).

Exophthalmos - occurs when there is an increase in the volume of the tissue behind the eyes, the eyes will appear to bulge out of the face.
